The Beaches

Flora along the beach.

There are 22 miles of Sandy beaches on the South Shore of Hilton Head Island. All of the beaches can be accessed by bike and are public. Parking on the other hand can be private by nature which can limit access to some of the beaches. You can ride your bike on the beach and get to all locations by bike which will allow you access to the whole Island. You are required to walk your bike down to the hardpacked sand (the tide line) in most locations.

There are stations at most places where you can rent beach chairs and umbrellas. In 2018 we paid $35 dolloars for two chairs and an umbrella and tipped the lifeguard who assisted with setting up the chairs.

There are also public beaches at Hilton Head Island and below there is a list with the access road that will allow you access to parking. In St. Andrews there are two access points to the beach. One is at the Dunes House. The other is at the Disney Beach Club and Palmetto Dunes patrons can park on the left as you enter. Both have restaurants as well as a bar but parking is limited at both. During tourist season we recommend taking the Dunes Buggy which is a free shuttle to the Dunes house. If you enjoy riding bikes there are bike racks at both locations so be sure to bring your lock.
